Report on the situation of human rights in Yemen for the month of May 2020

243 cases of violations between arresting, killing, breaking into, and detonating houses

The monitoring team of the Future Partners Foundation for Development and Human Rights stated in its monthly report that the human rights situation in Yemen is deteriorating dramatically amidst local, regional and international silence, and the human being has become vulnerable to all violations and suffers from torture and oppression in all aspects of political, economic and social life. With the escalation of the case infected with the virus of 19, the pandemic Covid, which struck the world, and Yemen was one of the worst regions affected by this virus, as citizens faced their fate without any support or health care, but rather transformed the virus in some areas into a tool through which human rights were violated and many were subjected to arrest. Intimidation and liquidation in some cases, through the injection of mercy, which was mentioned among the citizens, which made many injured and sick people refrain from going to hospitals or disclosing the injuries due to fear of the fate awaiting them, in addition to the blackout adopted by the Houthi group about the number of injuries in the areas under its control Which refused to disclose the number of injuries and the number of deaths so far. The monitoring team said in its monthly report that the total violations that affected the civilian citizens in all Yemeni cities, which the team was able to monitor despite its modest potential, with 243 violations during the month of May 2020. The human and human rights violations mentioned in the report were distributed as follows:

First: direct killing

The team monitored 80 cases of killing and wounding civilians during May 2020. Including 48 dead, 43 men, 4 women and 1 child. 32 civilians were injured, including 24 men and 8 children.

Second: Snipers and landmine victims

Landmines and their areas of cultivation still pose a great danger to civilians, targeting them in the streets and farms in the vicinity of the spread of snipers who monitor civilian innocent children and children in public roads and residential neighborhoods. Especially in areas experiencing clashes

A man and a child were killed and 1 man and 1 child were wounded by a sniper in Taiz, Al Hudaydah and Marib governorates.

And 15 civilians were victims of mine cultivation.

It wounded 9 civilians, including 8 men and 1 woman.

Third: shells and Katyusha rockets

The report stated that 29 civilians were killed and injured, as victims of fatal missiles and Katyusha rockets fired at civilians from time to time. 6 victims, 4 men, 1 woman and 1 child, were injured, 23 civilians, including 12 men, 4 women and 7 children, were injured.

Fourth, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance

First: Arbitrary detention. The team observed that 69 civilians were subjected to arbitrary arrest. Among the detainees are 3 journalists.

Second: enforced disappearance. 1 journalist was subjected to enforced disappearance.

Fifth: storming and destroying public buildings and private housing

The report mentioned that 17 houses were raided and their contents were looted, in addition to one storming a mosque and arresting the mosque and 1 commercial store. The report stated that 5 houses were burned and demolished and their contents were looted. Red Sea mills were subjected to artillery fire, which led to the burning of the mills.

Sixth: Extrajudicial executions

During the month of May, the monitoring team observed that one prisoner was subjected to extrajudicial execution by the Houthi group.

Seventh: suicide and rape

The report of the monitoring team of the Future Partners Foundation found that one young suicide committed during May 2020.

2 cases were raped, including a woman and a girl.

Flight strikes

The report stated that 5 civilians were killed by air strikes and 1 was injured by the coalition shelling. Another 1 was killed by US drone aircraft.
