605 Cases of Human Rights Violations in Yemen, December 2020

The human rights monitoring team of the Future Partners Foundation for Development and Human Rights issued its monthly report on the human rights situation in Yemen during the month of December of 2020. The report mentioned many violations that affected civilians in many eastern, southern and northern cities of the Republic of Yemen, in particular the cities that are witnessing Escalating violations, despite their occurrence outside the circle of armed confrontations, such as Sana'a, Ibb and Aden, as these cities are supposed to witness some stability in the human rights situation. Field observers attribute this to the illegal behavior of the groups that run these governorates due to the almost total absence of security institutions that follow the state, and the proliferation of weapons among citizens, which contributed to the escalation and spread of the phenomenon of committing violations and restricting the freedoms of civil organizations that work to monitor human rights violations And the restriction of societal and individual freedoms within these societies.

The monitoring team said that the month of December of 2020 recorded a terrible escalation in violations. The team recorded 605 human rights violations during this month. The monitoring team stated in its monthly report that the total number of violations that affected civilian citizens in all Yemeni cities, which the team was able to monitor despite its modest ability, by 605 violations with an escalation in the phenomenon of arrests and enforced disappearances among the civilian population. The human rights and humanitarian violations mentioned in the report were distributed as follows:

First: direct killing

The team monitored 61 cases of death or injury violations against civilians during the month of December. Among them are 45 dead. By 41 men, 2 women and 2 children. 16 civilians were wounded, including 10 men, 4 women and 2 children.

Second: victims of snipers and mines

Mines and the areas where they are planted still pose a great danger to civilians, as they were planted in roads and farms, in addition to the proliferation of snipers targeting civilians, including children and women, on the roads, public places and residential neighborhoods.

The report stated that 6 casualties were killed or wounded by a sniper, as 4 civilians were killed, including 1 man and 3 children. Two children were wounded by snipers deployed in the contact areas in Taiz and Al Dhale'e.

The victim of planting mines and other explosives during this month, 15 civilians were killed, including 6 men, 2 women and 2 children, and 5 civilians were wounded, including 4 men and 1 children.

Third: missiles and Katyusha rockets

The report stated that 186 civilians were killed or injured and killed by the deadly shells fired at civilians and ballistic missiles fired at Aden International Airport, coinciding with the landing of the government plane on the airport grounds. Where he killed 41 people. Among them are 31 men, including the Belqis TV correspondent, the last employee of the International Red Cross, 1 woman and 9 children. The report concluded by the monitoring team of the Future Partners Foundation for Development and Human Rights that 6 suicides were detected, including 5 men and 1 woman.

According to indications that indicate an increase in the state of rape, which is kept quiet for fear of shame, or because of customs and traditions that prevent the disclosure and reporting of the rape case that children and women are exposed to. The report stated that Ibb topped the governorates in the number of violations that affected civilians with 175 violations, followed by Aden Governorate with 152 violations, and Al Hudaydah Governorate came in third order with 99 violations, followed by Sana'a Governorate with 60 violations, then Taiz Governorate with 46 violations, and then Governorate.
