Future Partners condemns the demolition of the Al-Nahrain Mosque in Sana'a

The Future Partners Foundation for Development and Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the demolition, destruction and equalization of the Al-Nahrain Archaeological Mosque, which is located in the Old City of Sana'a, by the Endowment office in the capital.

Partners Foundation denounces what the Endowment Office, in cooperation with the Historic Cities Preservation Commission, committed an offense against the mosque as it is an ancient Yemeni Islamic heritage, and works to obliterate the historical city landmarks registered in the list of ancient cities with UNESCO, with the aim of replacing it with another building.

Al-Nahrain Mosque dates back to old Sana'a, which was expanded in the eleventh and thirteenth centuries. It is noteworthy that the Al-Nahrain Mosque, which was completely demolished, is an important Islamic monument according to the Antiquities Law, as it was built in the first century AH by one of the Companions who lived in the same area and was buried after his death next to the mosque. The mosque's demolition is in violation of the Antiquities Law, in its entirety and in detail.

The Partnership of Competent Bodies holds the consequences of committing such follies and tampering with Yemeni antiquities and the Yemeni Islamic heritage. Indeed, this behavior reflects the existence of a project targeting archaeological sites and Yemeni history and the establishment of a culture.

The Partners Foundation appeals to all international actors and relevant bodies, foremost among them UNESCO and all international and local bodies to intervene and stop such tampering with Yemen�s historical and popular heritage.
